Lambert Joseph Mathieu, III works in a variety of media including oil, watercolor, gouache, mixed media and graphics/charcoal. With a deep appreciation for the work of old masters, Lambert has immersed himself in a deep study of many European painters including Rubens, Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci. Lambert's work is also influenced by the Wyeth family, particularly Jamie Wyeth. As a teenager, Lambert wrote to Jamie Wyeth and received a response that included a Jamie Wyeth pig drawing, a valued collectors' item which he will always treasure. Lambert later met Jamie Wyeth at an opening of Jamie’s work at the Coe Kerr Gallery in New York in 1988.
Lambert studied at the Martin Strong Art Studio in Los Angeles and attended the School of Visual Arts in New York. His first and longest teacher, Edward Pastureau, a Louisiana native, family friend and accomplished artist himself, specializing in wildlife paintings, remains a strong influence. As an early mentor, Pastureau taught Lambert the discipline of watercolor, a medium in which Lambert creates art ranging from high-energy soccer player paintings to serene lighthouse compositions and more. Lambert has exhibited his work locally in the Dallas Metroplex. He lives in the suburbs of Dallas with his wife and no dog (currently). He has two sons, Lambert IV and Marshall, whom he is very proud of. Thank you for visiting! www.lambertmathieu3.com
